Smartphone

A smartphone is a cellular telephone with an integrated computer and other features not originally associated with telephones, such as an operating system, web browsing and the ability to run software applications. (Techtarget, n.d.)

Having smartphones are surely convenient due to its Web Surfing, Camera, Entertainment, Education, Applications, and GPS but it also has disadvantages like being Costly, promotes Poor Social Interaction and Distraction, can cause Health Issues and Addiction, and may also give out Privacy Threats and Uncensored Threats. Although it depends on the user whether these smartphones will be used for one’s own advantages, proper guidance from parents to children is advised to be done.

Netbook

A netbook is a small, light, low-power notebook computer that has less processing power than a full-sized laptop but is still suitable for word processing, running a Web browser and connecting wirelessly to the Internet. (Lifewire, 2018)

Same as with Smartphones, what they offer is the conveniency of being portable, ready to be brought along anywhere you go and to be used any time you want. Although too much usage can bring along the same disadvantages as phones, following proper usage will ease down these flaws so one can use netbooks again with effectiveness.

Wearable Devices

Smartwatch

A smartwatch is a touchscreen wearable computer in the form of a wristwatch. While early models could perform basic tasks, such as calculations, digital time telling, translations, and game-playing, 2010s smartwatches have more general functionality closer to smartphones, including mobile apps, a mobile operating system and Bluetooth connectivity. (Wikipedia, n.d.)

Being similar to a phone with a difference of being more convenient and portable as it can worn, smartwatches are surely good devices for one to have. With only the probably disadvantages to it are its small battery capacity and being worn in an area abundant pickpocket.

Smart Glasses

A newer technological glasses that incorporates a bright high-definition display that is adjustable for outdoor use on the glass lens so that the images appear as if they were in the exterior world. (Collins, n.d.)

Being another “smart” device means that it is also a technology that aims to give conveniency. Though, as all products are, it also has its own demerits as such that it cannot be used by all people especially those persons with issues in their eye sight and uses eyeglasses every day. Despite being “convenient”, but it still isn’t as “portable” as it should be.

Bring Your Own Devices

In today’s modern world, people are either asleep or connected.

Allowing employees to use personal mobile devices in workplaces

Allowing employees to bring their own devices can lead up to more efficient and productive work, along with more effective communication between workers. But sometimes, it can also make employees these devices in order to laze around, especially by using them for entertainment like social medias and watching unrelated videos.

Allowing students to use personal mobile devices in school

Allowinf students to bring their own devices can lead up to faster making of project and school works with relation to using applications and softwares as they no longer need to do it only at home or at the library and computer laboratories. Though, as same as to employees, it can be used in wrong ways and be a distraction to education, but that will depend on the user.

Green Computing

Virtualization isn’t about being green, and we all know it.

Green computing si the practices and technologies for designing, manufacturing, using and disposing of computing and networking hardwares in a way reduces their environmental impact. It is also known as also known as green information technology [green IT]. (Techopedia, n.d.)

This practice is practically all good as it makes sure energy and hardware are used more efficiently thus having less more objects to dispose of with no later use. This include the usage of the devices with less electricty used, thus less energy consumed. The disposal of the hardwares are done properly either they are used for the same purpose later on, recycled, or thrown in a proper place. The design of devices are also designed in a way so that they may consume less electricity when used and its parts may easily be disposed once not needed or it is malfunctioning already. Lastly, the waste in manufacturing these devices are also minimized to reduce the environmental impact of these activities.
